Bible Passages: Isaiah 40:21-31
Discussion Questions:
- How does worship strengthen us?
Food for Thought Jordan and Audra Easley:
Rather than use their lives to glorify the one true God of Israel, the Israelites devoted themselves to the celebration of other nations and false gods. They depended on the power of these false idols to save them.
Picture this: God watching His creation run around in all their pursuits, like grasshoppers. Not even the Babylonian rulers had power that God Himself didn’t allow. It’s God who numbered their days and decided their end.
God had everything the Israelites needed. It was in His power alone to set them free and care for them, even while they were in captivity. It wasn’t about physical strength or youth. It was all about placing their dependence on God.
We too find everything we need in God because He alone has the power to provide for our needs. He meets us where we are with His power, grace and strength.
We glorify athletes, worship beauty and tend to relate popularity to power. Weekends in America are consumed with tailgating, college sports and packed-out entertainment venues. These aren’t bad things in themselves but as believers, we need to ask the question: Who is truly deserving of our worship?
