Jennifer Davis Rash named managing editor of The Alabama Baptist


BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (BP)–Jennifer Davis Rash of Birmingham was recently named managing editor of The Alabama Baptist newspaper, according to the paper’s editor and president Bob S. Terry.

The weekly, statewide newspaper, with a circulation of 113,000 households, is an award-winning Christian newspaper that goes out to more than 3,100 Baptist churches in Alabama.

Rash, has served as the news editor of the paper for the last four years after being promoted from the position of news writer. She joined the editorial staff in 1996.

Before coming to The Alabama Baptist, Rash completed a two-year stint as a journeyman/missionary for the International Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention. She served as an editorial assistant with Caribbean Christian Publications, in Hollywood, Fla.

Rash graduated magna cum laude from The University of Alabama (UA) in 1993, with a bachelor of arts degree in journalism and a double minor in English and political science.

The Phil Campbell native was the recipient of the Alabama Press Association Mertz Scholarship, the Scripps-Howard National Journalism Scholarship, the Buford Boone Memorial Scholarship and a Junior College Honor Scholarship. She received the Outstanding Senior Award in Journalism in 1993 from UA.

Rash, a member of the Religion Communicators Council, the Evangelistic Press Association, Baptist Communicators Association and Associated Church Press, has received numerous awards for her outstanding work in the field of religious journalism.

Rash received four national journalism awards for her coverage of the 1999 lottery debate, including first place from the Evangelical Press Association. She has won awards for coverage on: the Alabama Legislature; the 1998 F-5 tornado that hit central Alabama; a package on insurance; a story on prayer in school and a step-by-step account of a 14-year-old’s final three weeks on earth.

She has also received top awards for her coverage of Alabama Baptists’ partnership with Spain, tax reform and a feature package on health and fitness.
